The DDGC List

The DDGC List is a resource for the members of the collective to request support, post inquiries, share announcements, and build community. The list was developed in the spirit of the DDGC Guiding Principles. Join our conversations!

How to Join & Post

In order to post to the listserv, you have to be registered for it. Once you register, you can post by sending an email to list[at]ddgccollective.org. Make sure to replace the [at] with @.

Note: Once you send your post to the listserv, you will not receive a notice that your email was sent to the listserv. You, as poster, will also not receive the email that you sent.

Listserv Guidelines

We want the list to be as functional and accessible as possible. Feel free to post inquiries and participate in the conversation generated there. The list is unmoderated and, as such, depends on the help of each poster to stay functional and supportive. When in doubt, always consult the DDGC Guiding Principles.

The DDGC Working Group for Ethical Hiring Practices in the discipline has developed the following list posting guidelines when it comes to academic jobs. Please be sure to adhere to these if you are announcing open positions.

Job Posting Guidelines

Our collective thrives through exchange and community. At the same time, we recognize that we each play a part in continuing—or countering—patterns of exploitations and contingency. To that end, we encourage all DDGC members to regard the DDGC listserv as an important tool that can help us reaffirm the humanity of contingent colleagues and job seekers. As such, we have created a list of things for you to consider before posting job advertisements via the list.

You can post a job ad on the DDGC List if it, at the minimum, meets the following:

  1. The job is a multi-year, renewable, or TT/T position

  2. Lists a salary range, teaching load, and what relocation funding is available

  3. Ethically attends to the nuances associated with DEI discourses and practices

You should not post an ad on the DDGC List if it is:

  1. A part-time and/or adjunct position

  2. A non-TT/T position that asks candidate to teach a full load without the security of a multi-year position

  3. Does not provide basic health insurance and benefits

  4. Entails instructing more than the equivalent of 12 credit hours a semester

  5. Has a higher teaching load than the instructor or colleague who had it in the previous semester or year (For example, if the position replaces someone who previously taught 3 courses capped at 20 students a semester, the new position should not expect the hired faculty to teach more than 3 courses capped at 20 students a semester.)

We will update these guidelines as necessary and welcome your input on how to improve the space. Contact: sc[at]ddgccollective.com or one of the DDGC Steering Committee members.
